CANADA IMMIGRATION PLAN: QUALITY OR QUANTITY UNDER PRIME MINISTER MARK CARNEY

Reducing pressure on housing and public services: The rapid increase in the number of temporary residents has put significant pressure on the housing market (rising rent and home prices) and essential services such as healthcare. Reducing the number will help stabilize the lives of both Canadians and newcomers.

Helping the transition to Permanent Residency (PR) faster: Instead of focusing solely on temporary visas, the Canadian government is prioritizing clearer and more efficient PR pathways for individuals with the right skills who are contributing to the country. The goal is to attract those who truly want to stay and build a long-term future in Canada!
3. Enhancing the quality of the program: Tightening measures such as increasing financial requirements for international students and changing regulations around Post-Graduation Work Permits (PGWP) are aimed at improving the quality of programs, ensuring that students and foreign workers who come to Canada are well-prepared and have real career opportunities.
4. Sustainable immigration system: The goal of reducing the temporary resident population to under 5% of the total population is a long-term plan, balancing economic needs with societal capacity, creating a well-managed, sustainable, and humane immigration system.
