CHANGE IN MINIMUM WAGE FOR FOREIGN WORKERS IN CANADA | EFFECTIVE FROM 27/6/2025
The minimum wage is an important factor when hiring foreign workers in Canada. This wage helps classify jobs as 'high wage' or 'low wage' and determines the requirement for a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA).
With this change, it can be seen that there is an increase mostly in provinces such as:
- Ontario: Before 06/27/2025: $34.07/hour | After 06/27/2025: $36.00/hour
- British Columbia: Before 06/27/2025: $34.62/hour | After 06/27/2025: $36.60/hour
- Quebec: Before 06/27/2025: $32.96/hour, After 06/27/2025: $34.62/hour
Your salary will determine whether you need to apply for a Labor Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) under the high-wage stream or the low-wage stream for the positions. Please refer to the wage threshold table by province or territory below for details. If you offer a salary for a temporary foreign worker (TFW) that:
- The salary is equal to or higher than the minimum wage threshold of the province/territory, you need to apply for positions with high salaries and meet the program requirements in this line.
- The salary is lower than the minimum wage of the province/territory, you need to apply through the stream for positions with low wages and meet the requirements of the program in this stream.
